Now the summer is over that idyllic fortnight when one can read, read and read will have to wait another year. It’s hard to fit that book into a working day – late night seems to be the only opportunity (particularly if bought up with the credo that you cannot read until all work has been accomplished). I don’t know about you but my ability to follow even the simplest plot post 11 p.m. is pretty feeble. Last night’s (very late) quick delve into my book appeared to present another character of which I had not previously heard. A lot of irritated page flicking followed… Continuing to follow my OCD pattern, I am now reading every book I can lay my hands on by Richmal Crompton (except for the William books although nostalgia will probably take me back there as well). I can highly recommend them for a delve into a lifestyle long gone – meccano, crimped hair and an awful lot of tennis.
We are revving up for autumn and Christmas here and a launch of some non book products – another dash down memory lane with one of these – a three year take on that five year diary we confided in as teenagers. Sue still has hers (which we nearly lost in an evening marketing meeting in a bar – well, if you work for yourself you can meet where you like)) which demonstrates that her ability to entice men started on the bus at a very early age. Worth getting the girl in your life one – a re-read is an absolute joy!
